Which weapons will be fencing?
All three weapons: Foil, Epee and Sabre will compete.
What are the Categories?
There are two categories A & B competing at the paralympics. They differentiate between types (class) of disabilities. They are the same for men and women.
Teams?
A team is made up of both Cat A & B fencers. In order to compete a federation needs 3-4 fencers and must include at least one Cat B fencer. In Paris teams for women & men are competing in Foil and Epee.
What is Direct Elimination?
Direct elemination means there are no poules. Fencers have to fence up to 15 points or 3 min bouts. Every bout has a winner.
What is Repechage?
First round starts from (incomplete) Table of 32 with direct elemination. This means only the winner will go on to Table of 16 and the one who loses is out.
Repechage from T16 means the one who loses this (second) round will fence again in the B poule. They will still have a chance of a bronze medal but not silver or gold. The same goes for table of 8 and so on.
To reach the grand final a fencer will have to win every single bout.
Fencers who lose one round still compete for the bronze medal.
